OUR VINEYARDS

Herxheim.
Terroir. Limestone.

Our vineyards are located around Herxheim am Berg—one of the highest- situated places in the wine region of the Pfalz. The unique combination of limestone soils, high altitude, and fresh winds defines their distinct character. Every plot possesses its own structure and microclimate, providing ideal conditions for Pinot varieties and Riesling.

Over the years we have learned how differently our vineyard sites react. Today, we devote special attention to this diversity. We observe more closely, work with greater precision on a plot-by-plot basis and highlight what makes each site unique.

UNGSTEINER NUSSRIEGEL

South-facing slope with a warm microclimate and limestone-permeated colored sandstone (Buntsandstein).

Colored sandstone interspersed with limestone.

Chardonnay.

Dense, clear, and mineral-driven; warmth without heaviness, elegance paired with a precise structure.

Facing south on a gentle incline, the Ungsteiner Nussriegel is warm but never heavy. Its Buntsandstein soil laced with limestone, imparts a distinct finesse and vibrant tension to the Chardonnay. The result is a wine of both strength and purity: dense without being opulent, precise yet defined by a quiet elegance.

KALLSTADTER STEINACKER

A high-altitude plateau in Kallstadt; barren, exposed to the wind and cool.

Solid limestone bedrock.

Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc).

Linear, cool, and finely structured; restrained with a crystal-clear expression.

Situated on a plateau ridge above the village of Kallstadt lies the Steinacker—a rugged site where solid limestone rock sits just beneath the surface. This environment is where Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) truly thrives: cool, upright, featuring bright fruit and a delicate structure. It is a wine that embodies the peace and openness of this high-altitude plateau.

KALLSTADTER SAUMAGEN

One of the most renowned sites in the Pfalz; east- and south-facing slopes with perfect ventilation.

Lime marl.

Riesling.

Taut, mineral-driven, and deep; long-lived and serious with a clear signature style.

The Saumagen is one of the most prestigious vineyard sites in the Pfalz. Its slopes, which fall away to the east and south, are characterized by lime marl that imparts profound depth and complexity. This site yields wines with a taut structure, a mineral pull, and a palpable sense of seriousness. To us, this location demonstrates just how much terroir can be expressed from a single hillside.

HERXHEIMER HONIGSACK

A multi-layered site with diverse orientations and cooling wind currents.

Limestone and loam.

Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

Clear, balanced, and mineral-driven; possesses a natural equilibrium and a refined trait.

The Honigsack vineyard encompasses several plots around Herxheim. The site is partly sloped with varying orientations but it is consistently defined by a strong lime influence. In this terroir, limestone and loam alternate, while cool winds provide essential freshness. These conditions give Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) a distinct character: crisp acidity, fine spice, and a natural balance.

HERXHEIMER AM GOLDBERG

High elevation (approx. 210 m), characterized by solid limestone rock and constant cool winds.

Massive limestone rock.

Riesling.

Cool, precise, and mineral-driven; benefits from long ripening periods and possesses a fine, vibrant tension.

The Goldberg is a specific parcel within the Honigsack site—situated at a high elevation of approximately 210 meters, with solid limestone rock beneath the vines. Constant cool winds sweep across the slope keeping the grapes fresh for an extended period. The Goldberg produces wines that are precise, cool, and mineral-driven—always carrying that signature "Petri-calm."

HERXHEIMER AM FELSENBERG

South-facing high-altitude location at approx. 220 meters, characterized by hard limestone rock.

Massive limestone rock.

Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

Clear, Burgundian-inspired; features fine spice, elegance, and a vibrant tension.

The Felsenberg is south-facing and situated even higher, at approximately 220 meters. Here, too, limestone is the defining element: a hard, light-colored rock that provides Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) with its distinct structure and tension. Wines from the Felsenberg are clear, and elegant—Pinot Noirs that truly reflect the essence of the landscape.

HERXHEIMER KIRCHENSTÜCK

Situated to the west of Herxheim; one of the coolest sites in the area, characterized by strong winds.

Very high limestone content.

Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

Elegant, schlank, frisch; hoher Kalkausdruck, lebendige Struktur.

Located to the west of Herxheim, the Kirchenstück is one of our coolest sites. The high limestone content combined with constant winds creates a terroir that produces Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) with delicate fruit, vibrant acidity and slender elegance. It is a vineyard that proves just how much character can be achieved by restraint.
